POSITIVE WAVES:
Some people are supporting UBI by arguing that Artificial intelligence (AI), latest technology may replace the manned jobs of many. That could create a huge unemployment among the people. So that UBI may financially assist them until they get another job.
USA, UK, Finland, Scotland and many other countries had done researches on UBI. They found that it would be a good financial assistance to the poor.
It ensures social justice and income equality.
Economic report tabled in the parliament in 2017, reported how basic income scheme could rolled out across the country. Report stresses the importance of UBI.
UBI can improve the living standards of the marginalised people. UBI can cut the investments on health and nutrition as reports stated that UBI was improved the nutrition and health of the people.
WHAT WE HAVE TO DO FOR THE PROPER IMPLIMENTATION?
Amartya sen has warned that the income may be used more in private sector. This leads to more privatisation. This problem can only be solved by improving the conditions of public sector institutions.
Income source is the major challenge. It is depends on the govt. we have to see whether they can generate income by cutting subsidies and useless schemes or not. For future implementation govt. has to search for more income sources.
UBI has to reach everybody. And, the centre and state collaboration is must to implement it properly.
Different states have different income capacities, to tackle this problem centre must assist the states that have less income for its proper implementation.
Must focus on remote areas and should conduct awareness programmes on how to use the given amount.
It would cost approx. 5% GDP of the country. It is exactly what centrally sponsored schemes costs. As the scheme is universal in nature every citizen in the country is eligible including anbani. But it is up to them whether to give it up or not. Same like LPG cylinders. Moreover, it falls under the SC’s interpretation of right to life.
Finally, UBI throws many challenges on the officials who are going to be in the implementation spectrum of UBI. But it would generate good results in the near future. So challenges has to be faced and addressed properly to generate good results.
